Rosstat delegation participated in the 56th session of the UN Statistical Commission held at the UN Headquarters (New York, 4-7 March 2025). The session addressed the key issues in statistical development, adopted decisions on the most agenda items, and approved the future work plans.
Adoption of the 2025 System of National Accounts (2025 SNA)
The UN Statistical Commission endorsed the 2025 SNA as the international statistical standard for national accounts. Its implementation is a priority under the Strategy for Development of the National Statistical System and Rosstat until 2030.
Rosstat emphasized the need for a high-quality translation of the 2025 SNA into the official UN languages and expressed readiness to assist in the preparation of the Russian version of the standard with support from CIS and EAEU.
2030 World Population and Housing Census Programme
The Russian delegation contributed to discussions on the resolution "2030 World Population and Housing Census Programme" which recommends countries to conduct at least one population census between 2025–2034 using administrative data sources, geospatial information and disseminate geocoded census data, while ensuring data confidentiality.
Rosstat shared the experience in applying digital technologies during the 2020 All-Russian Population Census. Russian delegation also presented its plans for the 2030 Census round preparations.
Advancing the Global Statistical Agenda
The Commission also approved annual refinements and changes to the SDG global indicator framework, the revised Recommendations on Statistics of International Migration and Temporary Mobility, the work program for updating the SEEA Central Framework, and version 3.0 of the Central Product Classification.
International Cooperation
Rosstat delegation held a number of bilateral meetings with CIS and BRICS NSOs leaders. During the meeting of the Heads of BRICS NSOs delegates discussed the preparation of the BRICS Joint Statistical Publication as well as the development of BRICS digital indicators framework.
