Russia and Armenia will continue systematic cooperation in the field of statistics

Bilateral cooperation, implementation of joint projects in various areas of statistics, including new technologies for statistical data collection, dissemination of official statistical information and communication with users, were discussed on November 24, 2022 in Yerevan by the Head of Rosstat Sergey Galkin and the Head of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia Stepan Mnatsakanyan. The meeting of Russian and Armenian statisticians was attended by the Chairman of the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS Konstantin Laykam.

Sergey Galkin noted that the cooperation of Russian statisticians with Armenian colleagues is long-standing and systematic. Today, according to the Head of Rosstat, interaction on a number of key questions is of particular importance. Above all, it means the organization of effective statistical production, taking into account the universal digitalization and accumulation of administrative and business data sets. During the meeting, topics related to the methodology of agricultural statistics and conducting censuses, as well as research on income and expenditure of the population, labor and employment were discussed.

During the negotiations, both the Russian and Armenian parties underlined the importance of engaging specialists of the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS countries. “Statcommittee of the CIS, in cooperation with the national statistical services, is doing a lot of work to harmonize the methodology of statistical production” – highlighted Sergey Galkin. The Head of Rosstat is convinced that “accumulated expert capacity should be used for further development of statistics in the CIS.”

The representatives of Russia and Armenia agreed that the interaction of the statistical services of two countries will ensure reliable and operational statistics for the current programs of Russian-Armenian cooperation in the field of industry, agro-industrial and fuel-energy complex, transport, trade, as well as intellectual and cultural exchange.

The partnership of Rosstat and the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia is of particular importance in connection with the Program of Economic Cooperation between the two countries for 2022-2025, signed in September 2022.
