The 47th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UN Statcom) was held from 6 to 11 March 2016 in the United Nations Headquarter, New-York, USA. The United Nations Statistical Commission agreed with the proposed system of global indicators (230 basic indicators) developed by the IAEG-SDGs.

The creation of the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) was adopted by the United Nations Statistical Commission (UN Statcom). The task of the IAEG-SDGs is to develop a system of indicators to monitor the achievement of the goals and objectives of the Global Agenda for Sustainable Development. The group consisted of 28 representatives of national statistical offices representing individual regions and groups of states. The Russian Federation is a member of the IAEG-SDGs.
